A true museum-caliber bracelet featuring an exceptionally large Blue Gem turquoise stone of remarkable size, quality, and character. The stone is flanked by sculpted leaf or feather elements, with a stamped crossbar set with three snake-eye turquoise accents. While crossbars can sometimes conceal natural stone fissures, there is no evidence of cracking here—the feature appears entirely decorative.
This piece came from a long-time collector in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and has been in my collection for several years. It is said to date to the 1940s, though the construction may suggest a slightly later period, possibly as recent as 1960. The bracelet is published on page 107 of Southwestern Indian Bracelets The Essential Cuff by Paula Baxter.
It measures 5.75 inches around with a 1-inch opening.
